The world of Papers, Please is far from morally black and white, and some of the choices you're faced with will really make you stop and think "Am I doing the right thing?" All in all, it's a unique experience that I greatly enjoyed. By the time you've sunk a few hours in you'll probably develop an instinct to examine things way closer than you have before. I wouldn't really call the game "frightening," in fact, the only frightening thing about this game is the amount of citations I've recieved for not looking at documents close enough. In some cases your actions will lead to an immediate death, though it's important to note that the inspector's death is never "shown" on screen, and the only clip we have of the labor camp is some cell doors.ĭrugs, weapons, and other contraband play a relatively minor role within the game, they only serve as another thing to check the entrants for.
Various bad endings will make references to some punishments that the Inspector has been sentenced too, such as labor camps, and death. Most references to violence are in the newspaper that pops up at the start of each day, they do have a chance to affect how you will go about your workload. There are terroist attacks, if I remember correctly some are unavoidable and scripted in. Minimal strong language is involved, these are usually the result of denying entry to certain entrants, I personally find these reactions hilarious because of how creative some of the insults are, but it's something to keep in mind.
Human trafficiking is never shown, but mentioned in a note that one entrant will hand to you. Any of the nudity in this game is strictly non-sexual and a result of the "search" feature that is enabled when there is a discrepancy in the listed sex or weight, or when the M.O.A gives an order such as "All Kolechians must be searched." The only exception to this is arguably the pink vice slip that some entrants will give you. In story mode some of your choices will contribute to one of 20 endings (i.e giving the EZIC note to M.Vonel will immedietly lead to ending 3.) You can choose to stay loyal to Astrotzka or ally with a mysterious group called EZIC, who plan to take over the government.Īs for content, there is pixelated nudity, that can be censored, and pixelated violence, that cannot. The game has two modes, endless and story mode. Among them is the best man ever, Jorji (who honestly deserves his own paragraph, not many NPCs can make me smile whenever I see them.) The real joys of this game come from the entrants, many of them are randomly generated and will be different every playthrough, but there are some garuanteed to appear throughout your game, these are what the Papers, Please community calls scripted encounters.

I have only encounted one issue, and that's that the game cannot be opened from the toolbar if you install it via Steam, I'm not sure why, but it gives an error. The soundtrack is amazing and I can't get the opening theme out of my head.at all.

Firstly, I am happy to say that this title won't break your wallet at only 10 USD! If you want to try it out first, there's a beta version out there that you can download for free, with most of the features that made it into the final game. Let's get some non-story related points out of the way.
Sounds tedious and boring at first, but the developers managed to make it engaging and, dare I say.fun! So the premise of this game is that you're an immigration officer who landed the job because of the recent October Labor Lottery, the whole gameplay revolves around checking documents and determining whether you will allow entrants into the fictional eastern bloc-like country of Astrotzka, or deny them, according to the ever growing immigration protocol, all while balancing finances for your family.Īlright, so its basically Paperwork: The Game.
